    The diversity of life is about all the variations and forms and functions that characterise various organisms.but there are underlying fundamental criteria that point to a unity of life through common ancestry.(1) replication, (2) heritability (characteristics of descendents are correlated with those of ancestors), (3) catalysis, and (4) energy utilization (metabolism).
