Which of the following uses absolute value correctly to show the distance between −40 and 18?
1. −40 − 18 = −58 = −58 units
2.−40 + 18 = −22 = 22 units
3.−40 − 18 = −58 = 58 units
4.−40 + 18 = −22 = −22 units

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.2This is how u do it . If u are asked to find the distance between X and Y . U will say it is xy right? SO here its gonna be 4018 = =58

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.2See if u are travelling from 18th pint to =40 th point okai. ? And imagine these are meter values ! So 18th to zero point u have gone 18 m right? and zero to 40th point u have gone another 40m so adding that it would be 58 since it is to the opposite direction it would be negative.

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.0Absolute value is a number's distance from zero. All distances are positive.

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.0absolute values are always gonna be positive, so the only one that theoretically makes sense would be the 3rd one.
