Exposition: Bruno is a little boy who he loves playing with his friends in his hometown Berlin, Germany. One day, Bruno's mother announces to the family that they will be moving because of his Father’s job. Rising Action: When the family moves, Bruno is having a difficult time accepting their new home. At first, Bruno thought that the move was his fault, but then realized that he had been well-behaved during the past few months. In Out-With, there are no kids for Bruno to play with. Over time, Bruno finds himself incredibly bored in his new house. One day, Bruno starts to wonder and finds a fence, and he grew very curious. Bruno loved to explore, so he ventured off to cure his boredom. At the fence, Bruno meets a boy named Shmuel. Bruno and Schmuel discovered that they had plenty in common. The boys learned that they shared the same birthday, and that they both loved to play. As time progresses, Bruno notices how his new friend (Schmuel) was always hungry and was getting skinnier each time he visited him. Bruno ends up asking his sister about the kids on the other side of the fence, and eventually she explains to him that they are Jews.

Resolution: Bruno was never found, and his absence was a mystery. Bruno’s mother and sister left Out-With while the father stayed behind. Bruno's father continued to gather observations to figure out where Bruno went. He discovered a small part of the fence that was bent, and it appeared that Bruno had crawled under this bend of the fence. Bruno's father immediately became emotional and confused. He looked in the distance, and followed through step by step. When he found what his was looking for, his legs seemed to stop working right. The soldiers came for the father, and he went along with no hesitation. At this point, Bruno's father was careless for the consequences of him not obeying the soldiers.
