Outline how a true-breeding black rose could be produced using the process of biotechnology. Include i) details of the technologies involved ii) a discussion of the genetics involved – ie what is meant by true breeding and how can we determined whether a plant is true breeding or not

    At 1: probably trangenesis is involved: taking a gene from one organism and putting it into another one of a different species. You can find out more about trangenesis on this website: http://www.vrc-lab.be/corefacilities/transgenesis-gene-transfer At 2: A true breading organism is homozygous for a dominant trait and true breadingness can be tested by a test cross: letting the organism in question reproduce with a homozygous ressesive individual. If the organism in question was true breading, all phenotypes will be dominant. If the organism was not true breading, half of the phenotypes will be recessive and half dominant.
