## mathmath333 one year ago Counting question

1. mathmath333

\large \color{black}{\begin{align} & \normalsize \text{how many 6 letter words starting with the letter T } \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & \normalsize \text{can be made from all the letters of the word TRAVEL} \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & a.)\ 5 \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & b.)\ 5! \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & c.)\ 124 \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & d.)\ \normalsize \text{None of these} \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}

2. anonymous

ignore the T

3. anonymous

why?

4. mathmath333

6!

5. anonymous

@jim_thompson5910

6. anonymous

because you have no choices there, first letter is T

7. anonymous

question becomes how many five letter words can you make with ravel

8. anonymous

id say 5 or 6

9. pandaecat

seems like 5 to me...

10. mathmath333

why u dont use t for the rest of 5 letters

11. anonymous

r u playing a joke on us?

12. jim_thompson5910

how many 6 letter words starting with the letter T T is locked into slot 1. Focus on the rest of the other slots after slot 1

13. anonymous

im getting a head ache of this

14. mathmath333

but it is not specified in question that repetition is not allowed

15. anonymous

seriously?

16. anonymous

$T \{blah\} \{blah\} \{blah\} \{blah\} \{blah\}$

17. anonymous

there we go

18. imqwerty

|dw:1440466170002:dw|

19. anonymous

lol tnx

20. anonymous

$T \{\text{ 5 choices}\} \{\text{ 4 choices}\} \{\text{ 3 choices}\} \{\text{ 2 choices}\} \{\text{ 1 choice}\}$

21. imqwerty

i think repetition is not allowed :)

22. mathmath333

ok i hope repetition not allowed when not given specifically ??

23. SolomonZelman

which repetitions?

24. mathmath333

like TTTTTT

25. imqwerty

:)

26. mathmath333

lol imquerty

27. mathmath333

\large \color{black}{\begin{align} & \normalsize \text{how many 6 letter words made with T and L } \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & \normalsize \text{at the end positions from all the letters of the world TRAVEL} \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & a.)\ 24--> \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & b.)\ 5! \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & c.)\ 6! \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & d.)\ \normalsize \text{None of these} \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}

28. jim_thompson5910

yes, just change satellite's template $\Large T \{\text{ 4 choices}\} \{\text{ 3 choices}\} \{\text{ 2 choices}\} \{\text{ 1 choice}\} L$ 4*3*2*1 = 4! = 24

29. mathmath333

but in book answer given isd.) none of these

30. jim_thompson5910

then it sounds like they're allowing repetition eg: TRRAVL

31. mathmath333

oh

32. jim_thompson5910

which isn't exactly fair because they didn't write that in the instructions

33. mathmath333

by the way i don't trust book lit has many lot of typos which made my head spin in the past lol

34. jim_thompson5910

then go with 24 and just bring it up with the teacher

35. imqwerty

|dw:1440467509755:dw| so the answer is 48

36. mathmath333

omg O.O

37. imqwerty

:) it is not said that T should be at the 1st point nd Lat the last :) so there can be 2 cases :)

38. mathmath333

i never knew imquert is so genius O.O

39. imqwerty

lol

40. mathmath333

i hope u didnt use google

41. imqwerty

i don't :P

42. mathmath333

darn it

43. jim_thompson5910

@imqwerty I didn't think about swapping L and T. That makes more sense now

44. imqwerty

lol i used it in that logarithm question that ws too long to type

45. mathmate

Hi, can I join you guys?

46. imqwerty

no u can't :)

47. mathmate

ok! bye!

48. imqwerty

y do u think so @jim_thompson5910

49. mathmath333

God damn it , i m so poor in counting questions

50. mathmate

just kidding!

51. imqwerty

no no wait @mathmate :)

52. imqwerty

ok :P

53. mathmate

"how many 6 letter words made with T and L at the end positions from $$\color{green}{all~the~letters~of~the~word}$$ TRAVEL" So no repetition.

54. mathmate

"how many 6 letter words made with (T and L) at the end positions from all the letters of the world TRAVEL" so XXXXTL or XXXXLT

55. imqwerty

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

56. mathmate

I think it should be 2*4!, which is none of the choices.

57. imqwerty

^

58. mathmath333

yep

59. mathmate

Actually another hint was: "how many 6 letter words made with (T and L) at the end position$$s$$ from all the letters of the world TRAVEL" the plural of the position-s confirms that both T and L are at the end.

60. mathmate

So mathmath333, it's great counting day! :)

61. imqwerty

y do u say it counting :)

62. mathmath333

cuz perm and comb is counting , i also like the word counting

63. mathmate

Counting problems! lol

64. imqwerty

ok :) but y don't u say it permutations and combinations :) or PandC

65. mathmath333

it sounds boring to say p and c , counting makes sense to moody people like me

66. imqwerty

i wuld like to give u a medal but i can't :)

67. mathmath333
