    The coils between the poles of the magnet consists of a single turn of wire. The current through the left hand side of the coil flows in the opposite direction to the current through the right had side. From Fleming's left hand rule. it follows that an upward force is acting on one side of the coil, and a downward force n the other. Together, these forces form a couple (if you don't know this, ask me!), whose turning effect makes the coil move clockwise....
