    another way (if you know how to do this) is \[ \frac{9 \cdot 3 - 5 \cdot 3}{4} = \frac{3(9 - 5 )}{4} \] where you "factor out 3" from each term. now we do 9-5 first. we get \[ \frac{3(9 - 5 )}{4} = \frac{3\cdot 4}{4}\] then we divide 4 by 4 and get \[ \frac{3\cdot 4}{4}=3\]
