Describe the procedure used to solve an equation for a variable?

    Isolate the variable by any means such as adding/subtracting or multiplying/dividing.

    isolate all the terms with the variable on one side of the equation using the operations as stated by @texaschic101. remember to do the same operation to the other side to maintain the balance of the equation. simplify as much as possible. now divide each side by the coefficient of the variable.
