What is a database exactly? I must do one for my class this year and I'm having trouble understanding the concept. I was told that my project had to have at least 6 parts. Is a contact list an example of a database I can create?

A database is a system for storing and taking care of data (any kind of information, really). A contact list is a perfect example of a database, since you are compiling data, organizing, and then storing it.
