This amendment expanded the voting rights in the United States by taking away a restriction of who can vote. Before this restriction was taken away, it was more likely for men to vote for someone who would only benefit them. After allowing women to vote, they would vote for things that would also benefit them, or be mutually beneficial. This was also a sign of hope for people who still did not have all the rights they deserved, like the simple right to be able to vote. You could say this was a small spark that everyone was trying to keep, as it was a HUGE deal for women to be able to do something freely, without someone dictating it.
