Solve the rational exponent. (x-6) ^3/2 =125

2. tkhunny

Have you considered raising both sides to the 2/3 power?

3. anonymous

Yes.. 125 *125= 15625 divided by 3 turns into a decimal

4. anonymous

??? Am i wrong?

5. anonymous

I have less then 3 minutes

6. tkhunny

Why would you do that? $$\left((x-6)^{3/2}\right)^{2/3} = (x-6)^{(3/2)*(2/3)} = x-6$$ $$125^{2/3} = \left(5^{3}\right)^{2/3} = 5^{(3)(2/3)} = 5^{2} = 25$$ No need to do it the hardest way possible.

You need not to have us help you cheat on tests. These timing requirements are not helpful. If you don't have the time to learn, please feel free to plan better and make the time.

8. anonymous

Im not asking you to. I was stuck asn asking for help. No need to be rude.

9. tkhunny

Never rude. Just honest and direct. They are commonly confused. How may times have you mentioned time limitations, today? I've seen three myself and I don't just sit here and watch you. Make more time to learn. You cannot do it if you are always in ta hurry.

10. anonymous

I was doing that way because thats how someone else showed me to... So instead I shouuld of square root 125 to 5 .. And the answer would have been 25

This is the very first time I have asked for help on a quiz and I was only asking for help on one question. Yes earlier I asked for some help on the assignment before it that was not timed. Its just due today at 11. I ask for help because I have absolutely no examples for my online course so I ask people to help me out.

12. tkhunny

Please try to simplify your life. I like to keep a goal in mind. The worst numbers I want to see are the ones I started with. If I start with 125, I do NOT want to see 15625.

13. tkhunny

I'm willing to believe it's just a coincidence. Keep up the good work and keep trying. And THANK YOU for answer my objections to what seemed a bit odd. :-)

14. anonymous

So the correct answer was 31?

15. tkhunny

NO, you must then reassemble the problem. x - 6 = 25 ...and finish the solution.
