    to use the distributive property multiply each term inside the parenthesis by the term outside

    You have to multiply the -8 into both terms in the parentheses. So first, you would multiply the first term in each set of parentheses; in this case it would be -8 x 2 which would equal -16. Since there is no Outer or Inner term, we multiply the last terms of -9c x -8 which equals 72c. So the equation is -16+72c.
