Predict the chemical formula of butyne, having one carbon-carbon triple bond. C4, H8?? C4,H10?? C4,H6??

    I would say C4H6. It's easier to see if you try to draw the structure of the molecule, and then just count the number of H-atoms you get. And it doesn't matter where the triple bond is located on the carbon chain - the total number of H-atoms will still remain the same. |dw:1441832971146:dw|

    I agree with @alphabeta another way is to look at it like this. the names give it away too. yne = triple bond ene = double bond ane = single bond. |dw:1441833316080:dw|
