How did organic conmppounds get their name? How its the word related to its meaning?

    organic = the presence of carbon. any compound that has a carbon atom in it is considered organic, but hydro carbons are compound strictly containing carbon and hydrogen. @im_the_reject

    because they were isolated from living things - "organisms" - and it was thought that these had *special properties* and thus could not be made in the lab, they were obviously wrong.
