\[-9-(-10) = 19\]
\[= -9 + 10\]
\[= 1\]

- anonymous

dont we have to add?!?!

- KendrickLamar2014

Yes. you add -9 + 10

- anonymous

oh umm...-19

- KendrickLamar2014

No. its 1 like I said up there ^

- anonymous

so if negative and positve = a negative i have to subtract which is -1

- BishopPatton

the answer is 1

- anonymous

negative and positive is negative

- BishopPatton

when the minuend is subtracting a larger number then what its value is then the answer has to be a positive number(at least in the case where the two numbers are negative). So the answer has to be positive.

- anonymous

so we still have to subtract but we just have to see if it is a negative or not

- BishopPatton

yes... subtracting a negative from a negative means you will add the second. number up but you are adding up to zero so if it is -3 minus -7 you have to count up like
-3 1
-2 2
-1 3
0 4
1 5
2 6
3 7

- BishopPatton

The numbers on the left is counting up to your answer.
The numbers on the right is how many times you add.

- anonymous

so 4
is that answer

- BishopPatton

The answer is three because you have to count ZERO as a number when going from negative numbers to positive numbers

- BishopPatton

so -3 - (-7) = 3

- BishopPatton

so count from -3 to +3 counting 0 as a number and you will find that you counted 7 numbers.

- anonymous

so there is no adding in the subtracting cause it looked like u subtracted

- anonymous

-3
-2
-1
0
1
2
3

- BishopPatton

Perfect!

- anonymous

thank you

- BishopPatton

No Problem. It has been fun helping you!!!

- anonymous

so if i had 10-(-10) would it be 20 cause a positive and negative is positive

- BishopPatton

Correct!

- anonymous

YEA!

- anonymous

-6-8 is -2

- BishopPatton

-6 - (8) = -14

- BishopPatton

one sec

- BishopPatton

or do you mean negative 6 - negative 8

- anonymous

ok i had that in my mind first but i think if it is gonna be a negative number we subtract but do i have to add on all subtraction?

- BishopPatton

6 - 8 = -2

- anonymous

yes

- BishopPatton

so Negative - positive = negative so add the -6 with 8 and add down not up

- BishopPatton

-6 - (8)

- anonymous

-14

- BishopPatton

-7 1
-8 2
-9 3
-10 4
-11 5
-12 6
-13 7
-14 8

- BishopPatton

so once have added down 8 you will find your answer to be...

- anonymous

ok ok i get it

- BishopPatton

-14

- BishopPatton

cool.

- anonymous

5-(-8) is 13 cause positive and negative is a positive

- BishopPatton

- BishopPatton

YAY!!!

- anonymous

13 and up

- anonymous

but i got it at the age of 11

- BishopPatton

ok... i got 12

- anonymous

ok

- BishopPatton

I am skinnywatermelon

- anonymous

ok i got 1 0-(-2) is 2

- anonymous

ok

- BishopPatton

No it is 12

- anonymous

how

- BishopPatton

because 10-2=8 but this is kinda backwards so you add instead 10 - (-2) = 12.
So instead of a positive number making another positive go down.
Anegative number trying to make a positive number actually makes it go up.

- anonymous

weird but ok

- BishopPatton

yea... you reverse the way you use the 2

- anonymous

ok
-25-(-31) is 56

- BishopPatton

it is 6
