I agree with @chrissyC because the mitochndria, is the organelle that's responsible for the production of ATP. Well, most of our ATP comes from the mitochondria. When we look at prokaryotic cells, they don't have a mitochondria, or a nucleus. To think about this in another way, animals, humans, have much more complex machinery that require a lot more energy, so they will need naturally need more ATP which comes from the mitochondria.
