Reread this sentence from “Letter from Birmingham Jail.” “I submit that an individual who breaks a law that conscience tells him is unjust, and who willingly accepts the penalty of imprisonment in order to arouse the conscience of the community over its injustice, is in reality expressing the highest respect for law.” In this sentence, King is defining a conscious decision to disobey the law and bring forth an issue. an irrational decision made in the heat of the moment. a clearly thought-out process that exhibits apparent disregard for the law. an angry quick decision that ended in trouble.
