## teller one year ago Can someone help me with this problem?I keep getting it wrong because I keep getting ''f'' for the answer. Find the average rate of change of h(x)=3x^2-8x from x =1 to x = 6 .

1. inkyvoyd

same business friend. $$\Huge\frac{h(6)-h(1)}{6-1}$$

2. teller

Yea I did that and I kept getting F

3. inkyvoyd

you do realize that you didn't post the answer choices?

4. teller

I followed your notes from the last one and every time I put the problem in and got an F for the answer and this doesn't come with answer choices..

5. inkyvoyd

Okay. Let's work through it step by step. what did you calculate for h(6) and for h(1)?

6. teller

I didn't calculate anything...What am I supposed to calculate?

7. inkyvoyd

ok. do you know what h(6) means?

8. teller

Nope lol.

9. inkyvoyd

Okay. h(x)=3x^2-8x h(x) is simply a value that is dependent upon x. how do we calculate it? well, h(0) is equal to h(0)=3(0)^2-8(0) for any particular value of x, h(x) will equal whatever 3x^2-8x is. Can you find h(1) for me?

10. teller

You just confused me .My brain is like screwed now....I don't know how to find h(1) see these questions don't come with lessons just videos that don't help.

11. inkyvoyd

well, you probably know this, but math builds on itself. as far as i can tell for a lot of people they don't quite catch the prealgebra and algebra boat, and subsequently struggle as they swim while others ride the boat. Basically what I am saying is that the reason you cannot do this problem is because you are missing a lot of foundational knowledge. The reason the videos don't help is because the videos assume (rightfully) that you know certain things already. You have two choices right now - 1. continue down this path doing what you've done (I will not outright call it cheating or academic dishonesty but you probably know yourself what you are guilty of). This will work through high school, and perhaps even get you your diploma, but you won't be able to pull it off nearly as easily if you want to go to college. If you want this path, I can give you the answer, and you can go on your merry way. 2. Learn the material, despite the fact that you're a year or two behind. This method will take more discipline than most people are capable with. If you want to take this path, I can't exactly tutor you for every single question you have along the way, but I have relatively good places for you to go to. That being said, it's not a walk in the park. If this is the case, I'll try to work through this problem from the very foundational basics, but don't expect anyone else to do so. Choose wisely - it's 3AM and I'd actually rather give the answer than explain algebra ;)

12. teller

One I'm not cheating ,Two how can I learn it when the site doesn't even have lessons and the video doesn't even help me.I'm not asking for the answer .I'm asking for someone to help me solve it.So don't accuse me of cheating when I'm not...

13. inkyvoyd

You might not be cheating now, but how did you make it this far without learning the material?

14. teller

I don't know why don't you ask the site or in fact the teacher who is lazy as flutter and just refers me to the videos ...

15. inkyvoyd

What class is this called?

16. teller

MCR

17. inkyvoyd

is that the full name? If it's an abbreviation I cannot make sense of it.

18. teller

It's the full name but just forget it because people aren't helping me either way so goodbye.

19. inkyvoyd

What are you going to do?

20. inkyvoyd

Frustration is the devil, but so is failure

21. teller

I don't know i'll figure it out some how because in reality this world is fluttered up and no one helps anyone anymore without accusing them of something or anything.

22. inkyvoyd

hahahaha... if you can figure things out on your own, I don't really understand why you came here in the first place

23. inkyvoyd

and I will offer you a warning that you are going to be spoon fed your education less and less as you progress

24. inkyvoyd

elementary school? teachers try to get you to like school, so they try extra hard to be good friends high school? teachers wont' take the time to help a specific student during clas sprobably, but definitely after school, and they know your name. College? HAHAHAHA 400 kids in a general chemistry class designed to give as few high grades as possible.

25. inkyvoyd

professor doesn't even recognize your face.

26. teller

I came here to get help so please stop replying you're just making a fool of yourself .Your one of those idiots on here who think they know everything and accuse anyone who's trying to get help a cheater so goodbye.

27. inkyvoyd

No, I don't know everything. I'm enrolled in this 400 student general chem class, and I spent 4 hours in a lounge studying to classical music topics that I struggle with. It's easy for me to accuse people, and it's even easier for them to get frustrated. But, it's hard to recognize that ultimately one's education is the responsibility and best interests of oneself. I have had countless people say that "I came here to get help" and that "I'm not helpful" because I criticize the way they have been learning. Mind you now, is it smarter for one who wishes to educate to give a man a damn fish, or to teach the man how to fish? Overfishing aside, read over your own words are realize how entitled you are acting. You should NOT cherry pick your help. What do I mean by cherry picking? You want my math help, but do not wish to receive any meta help. Beggars cannot be choosers, and every single one of the persons on this website that help are volunteers.
