if you call the selling price x and take off 6% of x x- 0.06x = 117500 you are left with 117500 we can simplify x-0.06x by "factoring out x" to get x(1-0.06) and 1-0.06 is 0.94 thus 0.94 x = 117500 I would divide both sides by 0.94 to find x
