    To be sad, depressed, feeling weepy, basically a much bigger version of sad

    It's easier to explain this in context. Mourning is when you are sad yes... but its usually a sad, depressive state following the event of someone's death. "How are the Johnsons?" "Oh, they're still in mourning over their uncle Fred's death." Get it?
