Below is a table of value for the diameter D of a motor pulley (in inches) and the corresponding fan speed S (in revolutions per minute)
Find a formula expressing S as a linear function of D and then use the formula to find the fan speed if a pulley having a diameter of 4.5 inches is used.

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.03,4001,020/103=340 and I am assuming looking at the choices that the RPM is 1,530 im not sure how to get that so that eliminates choices D. and E. I am not sure what order the formula is supposed to be represented.

Best ResponseYou've already chosen the best response.0S as a function of D means S is the dependent variable (usually y) and D is independent (usually x) S(D) = mD + b where m = slope and b = yintercept you solved m = 340. Plug in one of the points 3400 = 340(10) + b b = 0 \(S(D) = 340D\) is the function, so you're correct for the first question. For the second, plug in 4.5 for the diameter \(S(4.5) = 340(4.5) = 1,530 ~rpm\)
