Does this sound ok for my third paragraph? Next, it is believed by some that by taking prayer out of public schools, people are much further away from God than they would be with it. Although there have always been problems in American society, it is thought to be the worst that it has ever gotten. Many of the values that the people in this country once held are no longer a priority, and they are offended when they meet someone who does.
it is thought to be the worst that it has ever gotten. not really clear. Many of the values that the people in this country once held are no longer a priority, and they are offended when they meet someone who does. I think I know what you mean but that is not what you wrote. the subject--- the values (people once held) cannot be offended. People are offended when they meet someone who does what? (keep old values?) Mind sharing the topic of your essay?
needs more. an example would be great too.
I was told to write an essay on a political topic, and I chose Prayer and the Bible In Public Schools/Society. Sorry for the mistakes, I've been up all night trying to tie this in with politics somehow and came up with this :P
the effects of not having prayer in schools and how it has contributed to the problems. Believing in God but not worshiping God. Not reinforcing family values. Not
This is the essay I wrote... The First Amendment states that Congress cannot interfere with freedom of religion, speech, assembly, or petition. Many people seem to be open minded and supportive of your opinions and beliefs, but when religion is brought up, they do not want anything to do with you. Those same people tend to be very defensive when Christianity is brought up. For these reasons, people have been against the Bible and prayer in school. Being in a private school, you have the freedom to read the Bible, pray, speak of God, etc., whereas in a public school, you do not. In the case of Engel v. Vitale in 1962, the prayer in question was: “Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence upon Thee, and we beg Thy blessings upon us, our parents, our teachers and our country. Amen.” They argued that by starting the day with this prayer, it went against the First Amendment, which says in part, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” They won the case, the prayer being ruled unconstitutional. Next, it is believed by some that by taking prayer out of public schools, people are much further away from God than they would be with it. Although there have always been problems in American society, it is thought to be the worst that it has ever gotten. Many of the values that the people in this country once held are no longer a priority, and they are normally offended when they meet someone who does. In conclusion, what took prayer out of schools was the Engel v. Vitale case and that it is believed that people have gotten further away from God because of prayer being taken out of schools. If God were at the center in American society, these would most likely not have been problems.
Personally it is an important topic that needs to be addressed.
It does. I go to a private Christian school so we are allowed to pray and worship God freely but for those that can't, it's a problem.
an example is the 10 commandments not stealing treating others how you want to be treated actually not just prayer but christian principles
I did not go to school here. In public school we had to have devotions at the start of school and prayers before and after lunch then for dismissal.
We pray throughout the day at different times. But which I was in public school, God was never ackowledged.
Caps used to suggest how to edit Many of the CHRISTIAN values that the people in this country once held are no longer a priority, and SOME PEOPLE are (normally OMIT ) offended when they meet someone who UPHOLDS THOSE VALUES.
Ok, thank you. That makes much more sense than mine lol :P
You did not support your claim that people have gotten further away from God and how this has led to the problems in society.
this is still your essay I just edited what you had and gave some suggestions on how you can support your claim. It would be good to have a "stronger" conclusion What are some of the benefits of group prayer? enhanced relationships better teamwork , joy of sharing/caring learning values that will benefit society This is good simply because of the topic. if you have time please include how society benefits. of course you also have to be aware that if one religion is allowed then they would have to allow others maybe it should be "quiet time" rather than prayer time.
