Shannon is a senator and proposes a law that private bank accounts and investment accounts are POD to a surviving spouse, if possible, and to the nearest next of kin if no spouse is alive. How would this law affect families? It would make it more difficult for people to open these types of accounts. It would assure that more survivors have immediate access to money during probate. It would eliminate the need to draw up advance health directives or living wills. It would mean that more people would need to draw up a durable power of attorney.
