## anonymous one year ago A cyclist stops at a stop sign. After he checks the intersection, he begins pedaling again. He reaches a velocity of six meters per second in three seconds. What's the cyclist's acceleration? HELP ME PLEASE

1. shreenithaa

first write the formula

2. shreenithaa

what is it? i need to write it so i can talk u through this, okay?

3. anonymous

What do you mean the formula? Oh gosh I am not good at this!

4. anonymous

That is all that is there

5. kl0723

can you use velocity = intial velocity + accel x time? do you think you have all the data required?

6. anonymous

I have the initial velocity. That is 0. The velocity now is 2 m/s2 (That is squared. I do not know what direction the person is going) Time is 3 seconds I need the acceleration

7. anonymous

v=u+at

8. kl0723

since the cyclist stops and the starts to pedal again means that he starts from rest, then initial velocity is zero, you're given time and final velocity or max velocity in this case

9. anonymous

u=0 v=2m/s t=3 s a=?

10. anonymous

Yes?

11. kl0723

from the equation can you solve for Acceleration and then plug in your data?

12. shreenithaa

well, first of all, the formula is velocity equals distance divided by time acceleration is velocity final minus velocity intial over time final minus time intitial

13. shreenithaa

use this info to calculate ur math

14. anonymous

so it is 6 - 0 / and 3 - 0? so the acceleration is 2?

15. shreenithaa

velocity is 2 but u need final velocity and the starting velocity and final time and beginning time in order to get the acceleration we know that final time is 3 seconds

16. anonymous

I have the final velocity though. It is 2 m/s (Squared) the direction is not given. What I gave is what I have

17. shreenithaa

what if the starting time is 0 so now we need the initial velocity

18. anonymous

initial velocity is 0 m/s (Squared) since they are at a stop sign

19. shreenithaa

since the starting is 0 so the velocity must be 0 right?

20. anonymous

Yes

21. shreenithaa

so ur answer is acceleration is 2

22. anonymous

That is it?

23. shreenithaa

u were right the whole time sorry for the confusion

24. anonymous

25. shreenithaa

no it has to have the units

26. anonymous

What are said units? Like are the from the problem, or?

27. anonymous

I just started physics recently, and boy is it hard!

28. shreenithaa

meters per second squared

29. shreenithaa

what grade r u in and state

30. anonymous

8th, texas

31. anonymous

Thank you, SO MUCH!

32. shreenithaa

8th California

33. anonymous

Cool! I'm just not very smart!

34. anonymous

2=0+a*3 a=2/3 m/s^2

35. anonymous

I er, have no idea what that means if we are being honest here

36. shreenithaa

wow same grad right!!! i moved to virginia where i had honors science so i learned this i was in cali for most of the time dont worry i am dumb in many places, but math and science are my specialty u'll find urs

37. anonymous

But thanks. Really!|dw:1442535044863:dw|

38. anonymous

$v=u+at$ $2=0+a*3$ 3a=2 $a=\frac{ 2 }{ 3 }m/s^2$

39. shreenithaa

ur welcome good luck;)

40. anonymous

Thanks!

41. shreenithaa

wait what r u talking about @surjithayer

42. anonymous

I don't know either! lol

43. shreenithaa

k gotto go

44. anonymous

Bye!

45. shreenithaa

do u have a texasian accent?

46. anonymous

The closest thing to an accent is that I say y'all. Other than that, no

47. shreenithaa

i like accents mostly british, canadian, and australian

48. anonymous

Gee, thanks! Lol

49. shreenithaa

thnx for what?

50. anonymous

(sarcasm)

51. shreenithaa

ooooh... i knew that

52. anonymous

(It is like thanks for being mean, but a joke)

53. anonymous

lol

54. anonymous

sorry ,i miss read ,it is 6 m/s i thought 2 m/s you are correct 6=0+3a a=2 m/s^2

55. shreenithaa

hey! i like them i never said i didnt like urs

56. shreenithaa

well @surjithayer we already got that thnx for helping anyways

57. anonymous

(that is why I was kidding) and thanks @surjithayer

58. shreenithaa

i have a friend who i met or met online she's like my study-budy penpel i guess ur mine now too she's in florida but in 6th grade

59. shreenithaa

sorry penpal

60. shreenithaa

i have spelling issues

61. anonymous

lol. That is cool I guess. I am doing the rest of my hw rn too, it is way easier

62. shreenithaa

k bye im doing mine and helping

63. anonymous

bye!

64. shreenithaa

hope i meet u tom-tom (tomorrow in my way) it not tom and jerry

65. anonymous

YES, I am done with my homework! YAY
