A network tree would most likely be used to a) show the hierarchy of an organization. The hierarchy of an organization is rarely lineal, but usually complex. For this reason, a network tree, which denotes a fixed but complex structure, would be ideal for an organization's hierarchy. On the other hand b) denotes a binary comparison (a tree has more than two branches), c) would make use of the tree's various branches, but there's no differentiation to express here (one trait does not supersedes the other), and d) expresses a changing relationship between variables which a tree would not allow one to express.
