Javier has a job installing windows. He earns a rate of $75 per day plus $8 per window installed. He also receives a stipend of $25 for snacks. Javier knows his weekly earnings can be shown with the following expression: 75d + 8w + 25 Part A: Identify a coefficient, a variable, and a constant in this expression. (3 points) Part B: If Javier works for 5 days and installs 48 windows, how much does he earn? Show your work to receive full credit. (4 points) Part C: If Javier gets an increase in his stipend and receives $40 for snacks, would the coefficient, variable, or constant in the equation change? Why? (3 points) (10 points)

Part A: A Coefficient is a number accompanying a variable so we can say 75 or 8. For a variable we have d and w. The only constant here is his snacking money which is 25! Part B: You need to show work here, remember! \[(75*5) + (8*48) + 25 = 784\] Part C: We already identified what his snack money is! Ask questions if you don't understand something here!

    that look right (75*5) +(8*48)+25=784 375 + 384 + 25 = 784

Let's start by breaking down the equation: 75d + 8w + 25 What do we call the "d" and the "w"?

Bingo! Now what about the 75 in front of the d, and the 8 in front of the w?

So if we look back at the word problem we can see the constant of 25 is his snacks! So, if we increase his snacking stipend we thus increase the constant.

oh so the constant would then be 40 instead of 25
