Hi. Unless your assignment states otherwise, I'm guessing you'll want to use MLA Format. When doing a research essay, I find it helpful to jot down a few words per sentence to remind yourself what it was about and then make those notes into an outline so that it'll be in your own words when you go to write. Hope that helps!

Whats the best way to start an outline or to do an outline? I know I have to use APA style.

I'm not really familiar with APA style. Here's a sample of turning an article into key words and then into an outline. The outline doesn't exactly follow the article, but sometimes they like that because it shows that you put some thought into it instead of rewording the same thing.
