f(a+h)= horizontal shift (if h is negative then shift to the right , and if h is positive then shift to the left ) f(a)+k = vertical shift (if k is positive then shift up , and if k is negative then shift some units down)

3. anonymous

OK so that means it would be what?

4. Nnesha

yeah tell me it would be what ?

5. Nnesha

here is an example (x-2)^2 +3 the number in the parentheses represent h so h is negative so shifting 2 units to right and number outside the parentheses represent k 3 is positive so 3 units up

6. anonymous

What would it be? A, B, C or D?

7. Nnesha

i gave u the information you have to tell me which is it and why

8. anonymous

I dont get it still

where did you get h from?

12. anonymous

Its either b or c right?

13. Nnesha

h is a variable that represent a number in the parentheses look at your question what number is replaced by h ?

14. Nnesha

15. anonymous

left/right?

16. Nnesha

yes right so number should be outside the absolute bar or inside ?

17. anonymous

inside?

18. Nnesha

inside the absolute bar ?

19. Nnesha

$y =\left| x-h \right| +k$ h = horizontal shift k=vertical shift

20. anonymous

oh so it would be outside the bar right?

@Nnesha

22. Nnesha

the question is 5 units to the right and bec h represent the horizontal shift(left/right) so it would be inside the bar
