anonymous one year ago PLEASE HELP ME!! The volume for a rectangular prism is given by the formula V = l · w · h, where l is the length of the prism, w is the width of the prism, and h is the height of the prism. If the volume of a rectangular prism with a height of 9 inches is 144 cubic inches and the base of the prism is a square, then what is the width of the rectangular prism?

if V =l*w*h then so since they have said that base of the prism is a square that means all the sides if the base are equal . So length = width !! since l = w We can write the equation as V =2wh right> Cuze l=w so lw=2w=2l $w = \frac{ v }{ 2h }$

5. Rushwr

$w = \frac{ 144 }{ 9 *2 } = \frac{ 144 }{ 18} = 8inches$

6. anonymous

is the answer going to be 16 inches

7. anonymous

oh wait the answer its 8 inches?

8. Rushwr

yep U have o divide the volume by 2h!!!!! not just h .

Got it ?
