What is the best course of action to follow should you lose your train of thought during your speech? Here are the choices quietly glancing at your notes to find your place continuing to speak, even though you are rambling hoping no one will notice and moving on to talk about something completely unrelated asking if anyone in the audience has questions asking the audience to give you a second to regain your composure

Asking the audience a question is typically the best decision, allowing you to regain composure and to continue on with the speech while entertaining your audience with a subtle question to ask themselves.
