however, they believed that only a select few would actually go to heaven, called the elect. so, all of them tried to be the best they could be to be chosen by God to be one of the elect. of course, it didn't help that they put to death anyone who fell outside of their standards. (p.s. if you know anything about the Salem witch trials, that was all puritans)
