Fact - Birds have beaks. Opinion - The Robbin is the prettiest bird in the world. What do you think it is?
how is it wrong
i know you don't like direct answers, but the simple fact is that black bears are the smallest north american bears.
geographically, animals tend to get smaller in warmer regions (in mammals, at least) and black bears are regionally located in the southern states of America. the colder northern states get a predominant population of grizzlies, which are much larger than black bears, and in northern canada, you have your polar bears
looks are a matter of opinion. i can say the black bear is the prettiest bear all i want. it's an opinion. but somethings size is definite. it can be proven.
does this make sense?
Facts are proven knowledge about an animal, person, thing, etc. Opinions are usually what you may believe, but others don't always have the same belief. Examples of facts and opinions (F = fact, O = opinion); F: The largest sea creature in the world is the blue whale. (This is a fact, since it is proven information that the largest sea creature in the world is indeed the blue whale. This may sound like an opinion, but it is real information) O: Maru is the cutest dog in the world. (This is an opinion. Why? Because others may not think Maru is cute. It's a look. Looks cannot be proven information.) F: My dog is smarter than my friend's dog. (This is a fact, even though it sounds like an opinion. How is this a fact? Because it can be proven. If my dog can do elaborate tasks and my friend's dog can simply fetch and roll over, it shows that my dog is smarter than my friend's.) O: I like the People magazine more than the other magazines about gossip. (Opinion. Though the People magazine may have more ratings than another, it does not mean it is better. Having more ratings is just because of the readers' opinions. If I were to make a fact of this sentence, I would say "The People magazine has more ratings than other celebrity gossip magazines".) Now, your sentence. The black bear is smallest North American bear, weighing about 250 pounds. Can the bear's size and weight be proven? Or is this just someone's belief? What do you think the answer is with the examples I provided?
