## anonymous one year ago Hello! I came across this website a couple of times, and was wondering if anyone could explain an algebra II math question? If you were to use the substitution method to solve the following system, choose the new equation after the expression equivalent to y from the first equation is substituted into the second equation. 8x - y = -9 4x - 3y = -22 (1 point) 4(-8x - 9) - 3y = -22 4x - 3(-8x - 9) = -22 4(8x + 9) - 3y = -22 4x - 3(8x + 9) = -22

the last one...

2. anonymous

@kal1921 Could you explain how you got that? I'd love to understand it, to be able to do others in the future assignments I get.

3. anonymous

Or wait, I took a good look at it to understand this, but I'm interested in the process! I go to an online school in another country, so the way I was originally taught is completely forgotten and when I tried to understand it, I just got confused.. Thank you very much for taking the time to reply, though! Its very much appreciated. :)

first make sure to change the first equation into the form; y= and x= so for the first equation 8x - y = -9 x={ -9+y }/{ 8} and y=8x+9 then substitute these values in place of x and y in the second equation...

5. anonymous

sorry i took long and never mind

6. anonymous

Its okay, thank you very much!

7. nincompoop

okay that is just an epic cheating

8. anonymous

How so?

9. nincompoop

10. anonymous

He was just trying to help, and he did explain it fairly well so I could do the questions in actual assignments that I have to submit!

11. anonymous

I don't think theres any harm in that, helping others

12. nincompoop

there is no harm but it is still cheating

13. anonymous

sorry who is "he" and what brought cheating here?

14. anonymous

i don't get it!!

15. anonymous

Don't worry, neither do I.

16. nincompoop

if you find yourself asking any more questions about systems of linear equation, then the harm was done silently in the mind.

17. anonymous

But I guess, I could see why thats seen as cheating. It is merely an exercise for my class, and I was confused for a second about the process of it. And, I don't understand what you mean by that last message you sent!

18. nincompoop

everything is an exercise, even exams

19. anonymous

Well, I don't know what to say. I did not ask for an answer, I asked for an explanation, and I got one, so I am content with the outcome.

20. anonymous

what is going on here? everyone is posting a question and asking for an explanation and an answer...em? what makes ours so different to you?

21. nincompoop

22. anonymous

And an explanation, don't forget about that. And, kal has a point; a lot of people have posted answers on this website without the explanation, and people have asked for whole tests to be answered, not even explained.

23. nincompoop

just because monkeys do it, you should do it

24. anonymous

I think the phrase is, "just because others do it, doesn't make it right." I would know, I hear it a lot from my father!

25. anonymous

haha

26. nincompoop

giving you an answer even though with an explanation later still defeats the purpose of studying this is not open-answer my exams and homework for me :)

27. nincompoop

you should really move on to your actual homework now since you've got this part of the concept on systems of equation covered

28. anonymous

I never asked for my exams or homework to be answered, thats the thing. I was caught in a rut and asked for help, and I got it. I don't understand why you think that I asked for an answer. And yes, I have it open in another tab, thank you though.

29. anonymous

Although, I'm doing a research paper in my arts and humanities class.
