Two reasons that contributed to its fall were: 1) A succession of weak rulers 2) A growing inability to fend off foreign invaders partly due to internal strife caused by infighting among the nobles. Further divisions within the empire weakened it even more, eventually leaving India vulnerable to others such the British Empire.
