Distribute the negative sign to x and 4 -x -4 + 2x + 7 A good way to understand this is that there is an invisible 1 next to that negative sign, outside the parentheses, to the left. -1(x+4) It distributes and the -1 multiplies to x and 4 Thus getting -x - 4 Now we continue

-x -4 + 2x + 7 Rearrange the problem to help clear things up -x + 2x -4 + 7 This change is to help clarify what weʻre doing. We will be adding the xʻs together, and adding the regular numbers together

    -x + 2x = x -4 + 7 = 3 x + 3 is your final answer
