is (1, -4) a solution to the equation y = -2x ?

    (1,-4) means that x = 1 and y = -4 try plugging in those numbers into y = -2x and see if both sides are equal

    -4=-2(1) Yes you are correct it is NOT a solution because -2 x 1 = -2 NOT -4
