Why is it important to be able to express a clear and coherent argument visually or in writing? Where will this be used in the real world?

The only thing I can think of is because you have something to go back to if you start to forget your argument and counter arguments. On paper you have the option to have references and citations to back your argument up, as opposed to speaking freely with no proof. Thats just my thought.
