Although the state of Alaska has more square mileage than any other U.S. state, it is one of the least populated in the country. Which is the most probable reason for this? The climate and geography in Alaska do not offer the ideal environment for large populations. Most United States citizens wish to settle in an area with large concentrations of mosquitoes. People wish to preserve Alaska's natural beauty and would never want to ruin it by permanently settling there. There is no water source near enough to Alaska to support a large human population.
