    yeah which is why I am confused because the choices are either 1, 2, 3, 4

    I'm guessing they're asking you for a degree of the polynomial you get when you plot the points. Looks like a parabola to me

    I think those are the degrees they want you to choose from.

    like if the points made a line the polynomial would be linear and degree would be 1. A parabola like shape could be any even degree, but the smallest would be 2.

    So you said a parabola is a even degree so that would leave 2 or 4 but how do you know which one is it?
