well we know that L*W is area, which is 3x^2+9xy+6y^2. The width is 3x+6y. so L(3x+6x)= 3x^2+9xy+6y^2

just divide 3x+6y from both of the sides. It would leave you with x+y. So x+y(3x+6y), distribute the x and y separately, you get 3x^2 +3xy+6xy+6y^2, combine like terms and you get 3x^2+9xy+6y^2
