-3|2w| = -12. now I know how to solve the equation but in my book it says that the absolute value of an expression cannot be negative so therefore it's no solution. But also in my book it has the equation | x | + 2 = 9 which would be both a negative 7 or a positive 7 but it just said there can't be any negative absolute values so im confused

\(-3|2w| = -12\) so, what's wrong with \(3|2w| = 12\) ??? .... and process from there?

sure, for \(|x|+2 = 9\) you have \(|x|=7\) such that \(x = \pm 7\)
