So the pyramid we have \[\large SA = \frac{1}{2} \times \text{Perimeter of the base} \times \text{Slant Height}\] Since we know sides of the base are all 5 we have 20 for the perimeter...and we know the slant height is 6 sooo \[\large SA = \frac{1}{2} \times 20 \times 6 = 60\]

ooohh okay
anonymous
  • anonymous
do you do the same for the 2nd one or?
johnweldon1993
  • johnweldon1993
Not really...first realize that a pyramid is basically 4 triangles leaning against each other right?|dw:1446665400894:dw| my terrible drawing there XD
anonymous
  • anonymous
right
johnweldon1993
  • johnweldon1993
Now if we want the slant height *have to draw this a little slanted because I started slanted |dw:1446665488431:dw| It looks like we just have a right triangle with height 4 and base 1.5 right? We just need to find the hypotenuse

ok
johnweldon1993
  • johnweldon1993
And I'm sure you know how to do that :)

yeah

  • yaya090600
sorry i just saw this lol
anonymous
  • anonymous
no your fine lol
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
do you still need help?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yeah on the 2nd one i got 34.63
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
do you know how to do the Pythagorean theorem?
anonymous
  • anonymous
yeah i do
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
ok since the line is in the middle of the pyramid you wont square the 3
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
so 4^2 + 3 = x^2
anonymous
  • anonymous
so 19?
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
19=x^2
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
so you square root each side
anonymous
  • anonymous
ok
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
\[\sqrt{19} = 4.359\]
anonymous
  • anonymous
so do we leave it at 5 since it wants us to round?
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
it rounds to 4.4 which is not one of your options
anonymous
  • anonymous
so just 4.3
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
thats what i would put lol
anonymous
  • anonymous
Thanks again!
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
my pleasure
anonymous
  • anonymous
Im sorry @yaya090600 can you help me with thie fist one I got 60 but its wrong
anonymous
  • anonymous
im just confused what went wrong
anonymous
  • anonymous
SA = 1/2*20*6=60 was wrong
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
you can google surface area of a pyramid calculator and put in the length width and height
anonymous
  • anonymous
i got 90
anonymous
  • anonymous
its not an answer
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
but you need to find the height first, and you can use the Pythagorean theorem for that
anonymous
  • anonymous
7.81
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
\[x ^{2} + 5 = 6^{2}\]
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
so the height would be \[\sqrt{31}\]
anonymous
  • anonymous
so would it be B
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
no
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
your length and width are both 5
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
i got 86
anonymous
  • anonymous
oh its 85
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
oh i didnt round, its 85
anonymous
  • anonymous
thank you
yaya090600
  • yaya090600
no prob
