Basically when adding, you don't go beyond the decimal places of the lesser. When multiplying, you don't go beyond the total significant figures of the lesser. Ex: 999 * 0.99 = 990 0 BEFORE the decimal doesn't count as precision, but it does, after the decimal. So, 990. is NOT the same as 990, because 990. assumes that 0, is not significant.
