Prompt Many teens and young adults have personal music players, such as MP3s, that allow them to take their favorite music with them wherever they go. Such devices require earbuds, and users can often be seen with at least one earbud firmly in place, listening to music as they go about their daily business. Some critics of these music players, however, argue that users tend to be isolated in the world of their music. Users, these critics say, do not really pay attention to what is going on around them; and they behave rudely when they carry on conversations with others while wearing at least one earbud. Assignment: Do personal music players such as MP3s isolate their users and hamper social interaction? Should such devices be set aside in some situations to promote social interaction and even safety? Plan and write a response in which you state your position and persuade readers to agree with you. Support your opinions with reasons and examples.
I think that regulating the use of MP3 players is an excellent idea. Perhaps this will prevent all of those idiots out there from falling into holes while listening to Slipknot. Just yesterday, there was an incident with a girl on a bike wearing headphones. The news report stated that an alien spaceship approached her from behind. The UFO was incredibly loud, but she heard not a sound. Many people shouted in warning, but all the abducted girl heard was the obnoxious rap music pounding through her headphones. The aliens heard the music when she was pulled aboard the ship and threw her out the window in horror. She fell to her death. The use of MP3 players is an obvious hazard. While we are at it, there are many other regulations that should be put into place for our own safety. Every vehicle on US highways should be painted bright orange to help prevent accidents. Before being allowed to ride, motorcyclists should have a complete Last Will and Testament drawn up by their attorney and be forced to wear suits of armor. I believe a few other things should also be regulated. The use of toilet paper is very wasteful. In other countries, people use natural objects; such as leaves and even their hands in place of toilet paper. Also, I believe that all dogs should be put on a strict diet of spicy enchiladas and Cajun waffles. Apart from other more obvious regulations, such as requiring each and every citizen of the United States to color their hair green, I also believe that their should be a law requiring anyone flying a kit to wear cowboy boots. I’d also propose that all children under the age of six learn to speak Portuguese and be taught the art of pick-pocketing. Every senior citizen should be taught to play the mouth harp, as well.
