I know this is a physics based question, I wasn't sure if there was a way to do it that way.

Use kinematics equation \(Y=v_0 t-(1/2)gt^2\) where \(v_0\)=0 = initial vertical velocity and g=9.81 m/s^2 = acceleration due to gravity.

Hmm - Its been a long time but i think you can use the gravity equations to do this:- height = u + 0.5*g*t^2 u = initial vertical velocity = 0, g = 9.8 m s-3 and t = 1 so h = 4.9* 1^2 = 4.9 m

* 9.8 m s-2
