What do I do with the 6 that is left in this problem? 17 feet and 9 inches + 8 feet and 9 inches. I got 26 feet and 6 inches how do i convert the 6 inches into like a decimal ???

Well you can't really divide to get it but you can turn it to a fraction like 6/12 and turn the fraction into a decimal

its (inches)/12 so in your case 6/12 =0.5
