the most direct derivation is 3x= 180 (I know it's the same thing - but from the diagram you can derive my equiation directly)

@Camthecam angles on a straight line add up to 180 deg so you can see from the diagram that x + 2x = 180 so you can find x THEN OPPOSITE angles on lines that cross are EQUAL so if you know x you can work out z - because it is OPPOSITE 2x
