@TheSmartOne could you explain why?
TheSmartOne
  • TheSmartOne
Look at the email that OpenStudy sends: http://prntscr.com/9ahziy Do you notice any problems with it? "Need help? Holler at us in the \(\sf\href{http:///www.openstudy.com/study#/groups/OpenStudy%20Feedback}{OpenStudy ~Feedback}\) subject, or look for a moderator in the chat (they will be the ones with the purple usernames)." So, what is the first thing that users do after verifying their email? They come right to OpenStudy Feedback and post their question. And then never get the help they would have gotten had they posted in the correct subject. Therefore, we need to change the verification email that is sent. :)

yeah it looks strange for new users. If might make an imagination that they can post questions in chat and ask mod lol
AlexandervonHumboldt2
  • AlexandervonHumboldt2
yeah that is probably the main problem of why there are so mnay people posting questions in chat and os feedback section
AlexandervonHumboldt2
  • AlexandervonHumboldt2
because i don't think users would o in os feedback section on their own. lol

Pretty much you can end up sabotaging your rep

Instead of saying "Need help? Holler at us in the OpenStudy Feedback subject," this should be revised to "Need help getting around the site? Send a Moderator (the users with the purple usernames) a private message. They will be able to help." I say this because if users start asking their questions in OS Feedback, or even asking how to use the site in OS Feedback, they're spamming the OS Feedback section. If they ask Moderators how to use the site, we'll be able to help them- and they won't be spamming! Even if they start asking Moderators their study questions, we could at least show them how to post their question in the appropriate subject. That's just my opinion, though. Anyways, good ideas are brewing! Keep up the good work! (:

@Whitemonsterbunny17 Moderators are supposed to moderate. Ambassadors are supposed to help new users. And when ambassadors deliberately try to mix up the two, the moderators say "ambassadors should just welcome new users".

Or remove 5 altogether...
TheSmartOne
  • TheSmartOne
Or leave it, because posting the generic welcome to OpenStudy message on new users post is the main way to get medals in this subject. ;) (;
Astrophysics

Who cares about medals and those welcome messages are more irritating than anything haha, it's better to not bombard new users with all the info at once anyways.

No wonder I have been seeing so many questions in the open study feedback that doesn't pertain to giving feedback about the website. We need to fix that.
dehdesh
  • dehdesh
This would be a complicated fix, but you could implement a "contact a random moderator" feature and use the link in the email to point at the "moderator/get help" room. It wouldn't have to be a completely separate chat-board necessarily, it could be more like a help-desk chat box.

this explains so much ;-; change is needed - agreed
TheSmartOne
  • TheSmartOne
@dehdesh It could all be fixed by changing what the verification email says. :) If you remove #5 altogether, then you won't need to do much coding to point at moderators. :)
dehdesh
  • dehdesh
Removing #5 is ignoring the problem rather than solving it. Having good user support is not something to frown upon.

Do you think more people is posting questions in the feedback space in the last, let's say, two months? I mean, in comparison with how it was before that time?
jigglypuff314
  • jigglypuff314
@nbarrera_t It has almost always been like this (where the feedback section ends up with the most new users asking non-subject-related questions) It probably has increased in the past month simply due to an overall increase in users due to exam season
TheSmartOne
  • TheSmartOne
Also, that verification email has been sent out to new users for a long time, so the increase in off-topic posts has to be because of more users signing up and reading the verification email.

I noticed quite a few problems with that email. Those duck-hamsters toiling is definitely animal cruelty. Also, I'm pretty sure they have revolted and escaped by now, so that should be updated. OpenStudy shouldn't even be promoting inter-species breeding, let alone enslaving the poor creatures. Seriously, what noble owl with good conscience would even consider enslaving other species? Also, what's with that astericks(*)? 2 should include a link to a simple explanation of how to go to subjects. 3 and 4 seem completely unnecessary. You don't need to say thanks after you say that you are looking forward. Of course the duck-hamsters weren't harmed in the `creation of this email`; they were harmed in the `secret underground warehouse`.
