The central nervous system is composed of the brain and spinal cord and functions mainly to process information and determine the appropriate responses. The peripheral nervous system is composed of all of the sensory and motor neurons of the body and functions to gather sensory information and to control the actions of our bodies. The CNS depends on the PNS to transmit information in from the receptors and out to the effectors.
