would it be x+x+52=90 subtract 90 from 52 and you get 2x = 38 divide that by 2 and you get 19?

is that right?

Let's see .... You should check your answer by plugging in the values and see if they add up x = 19 was your answer the compliment is x - 52 19 - 52 = -33 Let x = A and the compliment = B as in the drawing above A + B = 90 19 + (-33) = -14 so no -14 does not equal 90 I suspect an algebra error in calculating the original value. So try again and thanks for showing your work.

No, SZ wrote \[(x) + (x-52) = 90\]And you changed that to \[(x)+ (x+52)=90\]when you got rid of the parentheses.

how about this, x+x-52=90 add 52 to 90 and you get 2x = 142 /2 = 71? is that right?

Well, let's check it out. The angle, plus the angle - 52 degrees, add to 90. 71+(71-52) = 90 142-52 = 90 looks good.
